The highest-permeability grades, ready for the next 40 years of load.

Every power transformer is built around grain-oriented electrical steel. We make the premium end: high-permeability Hi-B grades, laser-scribed and certified coil by coil in our own lab.

We supply the people building America's transformer fleet: transformer manufacturers, core builders, and the lamination processors that serve them. Agreements are in place to supply U.S. HiPerm coils to the country's leading transformer and core manufacturers.

A steel mill is standing at 1500 W Main Street. We are turning it back on.

626,190 square feet under roof in Louisville, Ohio, with 69 kV power on site and Norfolk Southern rail adjoining. The building and the metallurgical lab are already standing.

Testing
Per-coil certification from the on-site metallurgical lab: core loss and permeability, reported as-cut and fully annealed. Tested at 1.5 and 1.7 T, 50 and 60 Hz; other points on request.

The metal inside the machine.

Every transformer on the grid is built around a core of grain-oriented steel. What it does, why ours matters, and what lower loss is worth — in four plates.

Inside every transformer, a core of GOES.

A power transformer is wound around a core of steel laminations. The core carries the magnetic flux that moves power between windings — and grain-oriented electrical steel is the only material that carries it efficiently at grid scale. Essentially every watt on the grid passes through cores like this, many times, between generation and load.

A core is never off. Orientation is why ours can keep up.

In Fe-3%Si steel the crystal has an easy axis of magnetization. Goss texture grows more than 95% of grains (never quite 100%) with that axis along the rolling direction, so the core magnetizes and demagnetizes 60 times a second with minimal resistance — at 100% duty, 8,760 hours a year, for 40–50 years of service.

Grown, not just rolled.

The orientation is manufactured: rolled thin across the gauge range (0.18–0.27 mm), decarburized, then held near 1,200 °C for days while the Goss grains consume the sheet. An insulation coat and a transverse laser scribe finish the job — the domain-wall spacing reduced, so less energy is lost as the walls move under AC excitation — taking core loss to premium grade.

07 · Strategic material

Essential to the national defense.

In April 2026 the President determined, under Title III of the Defense Production Act, that grid infrastructure and its upstream supply chains — transformers, and the electrical core steel inside them — are essential to the national defense.

The determination also found that without federal action, U.S. industry "cannot reasonably be expected" to supply them "in a timely manner": domestic capacity is limited, lead times are long, and the highest grades are imported. Flux Steel Works is the response — a second American source, built for the grades the grid cannot buy at home.

Forging the future of grain-oriented steel in America.

The campus is more than a mill. We are building a grain-oriented center of excellence around the site’s standing metallurgical and magnetic test lab — a GOES research center where development runs alongside production, on production equipment, with partners across the transformer supply chain.

Domain refinement, coatings, magnetic testing, thinner gauges: the work this industry stopped doing when its last American finishing lines closed, restarted here.
